Odor Emission Measurements

Accurate measurement of emissions is fundamental for regulation and effective odor control.

Before the scale of the issue related to annoying odors can be determined, it is necessary to identify potential sources of emissions and analyze their intensity and characteristics.

Odor emissions are most often measured in European odor units according to the EN 13725 standard for olfactometry, or by analyzing individual chemical components using detectors specific to the substances and molecular analysis methods.

Olfactometry is the preferred method for environmental odors because it considers their complex composition.

Measurement results can be used to:

  • assess compliance with regulatory emission limits,
  • analyze the effectiveness of odor control systems,
  • provide data for assessing the impact of emissions on the environment.

How can we help?

Biodrain specializes in measuring odor emissions in various industries. We have developed advanced procedures for determining emissions from various sources, such as chimneys, vents, liquid tanks, buildings, and solid materials like compost piles.

Our offer includes:

  • Odor emission measurements according to the EN 13725 standard (PCA accreditation)
  • Accredited measurements of bioaerosol emissions, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and volatile organic compounds (VOC)
  • Odor composition analysis using gas chromatography GC-Sniffing and GC/TOF
  • Field assessments of odor emissions from diffuse sources (e.g., landfill sites) in accordance with the EN 264086 standard
  • Measurements of unorganized emissions and leak tests of ventilation systems
